According to many ancient cultures, writing was
so important, that they believed Gods had created it.
Egyptian- According to Egyptian mythology, Thoth was
the creator of writing. Not just simply a scribe, he was also invented
art and science, as well as kept the calendar. He also created speech,
and at his will, he could transform words into material objects.
Chinese-
During to the rule of Huang Ti(The Yellow Emporer), there was an ancient
sage by the name of Ts'ang Chieh, who was attributed the inventor
of wiring. He was not a God, but his legend comes from mythological
times, and he was also able to communicate between the Heavens and
Earth with writing.
Mayan-
In the Mayan Culture, Itzamna was the creator of writing. He was also
a shaman, sorceror, time keeper, and creator of the world. He was
not the scribe God though, that title goes to a pair of monkey Gods.
But there are a few conflicting stories, where there was a rabbit
scribe instead.
Norse-
Believed by the Norse, Odin was the Lord of the Aesier. One of the
many mystical ahcievements Odin is credited with is the invention
of the Furthark(runes). Aware that knowledge is only attained through
sacrifice, he hung himself from the branches of Yggdrasil(the World
Tree) for nine days and nights. He had died, and was reborn with the
knowledge of the world beyond.
